Boar Spear

Spears. The weapon of choice of the Germanic people. Although everyone wanted a sword the spear was the weapon that most people used. Wodin himself was said to prefer the spear. There have been many different styles of spears used over the centuries. Here you see a boar spear. Since it is a hunting spear it has a wider head. The toggle on the socket keeps the boar from running up the spear. The head is about 16 inches long overall and 2 3/4 wide. The toggle is about 10 inches, and over all length is not quite 7 feet. This length is variable. I also make a hunting spear without the toggle.

These spears are two piece welded socket construction. This gives the strongest and most expensive type of spear. These are good sturdy heavy thrusting spears. The shaft is either hickory or ash shaped with a spokeshave just like my axe handles. All my spears have a buttcap on the end of the shaft.

As with all my work I stand behind my spears. (I sure am not going to stand in front of them!)
