Small blades like these are the Hadseax and were generally everyday
utility knives. I can make them any length you want but my most
popular size is the 4 inch style. I usually have this
size in stock. Other sizes can be custom made. They
are forged from spring steel, and are double tapered, This gives
a nice strong yet light well balenced blade. They are fairly thick
at the spine and have a slightly smaller handle than we are used
to. The handle is wood either maple or apple and held on with
brass pins. They make a good general purpose knife.
I make my knives with the idea that they are disposable in that they are meant to be used and carried and if need be lost without the heartbreak of losing an expensive highly polished patternwelded knife. The shape and size is subjective to what sort of a mood I'm in that day. With the exception of a bit of cleaning up of the edges the shape they are, is the shape they are from the forge. After profiling they are annealed then differentially hardened and then tempered. The type of wood I use for the handles is usually maple or apple depending on what ever strikes my fancy.
